IMDB rating: 7.90

Plot: Federal agent Elliot Ness assembles a personal team of mob fighters to bring Chicago crime boss Al Capone to justice using unconventional means during the mob wars of the 1920s. This fictionalized account of the arrest of Al Capone is heavy on style and gunfire. The end shootout combines a baby carriage and stairs with a nod to Eisenstein’s _The Battleship Potemkin_.

OK, but what do they do, just let the men starve?

Now, I understand the social dynamics here. I understand why "women only" is a much more organized, much less dangerous system.

But presumably there are Haiti men out there who are not part of any family. Are they now the new untouchables?

Many here have called me a radical feminist - but this strikes me as just wrong. Maybe its temporary, but it certainly does throw gas on the fire of gender relations.

In a time of emergency, they must play triage, which means serving those presumably weaker and with young ones to care for first. Emergency situations are resolved as quickly as possible, I doubt they’re trying to set up a social caste system, only get everyone fed as quickly as possible based on what they can only imagine as a system based on need.

I agree that this is confusing, but sadly it’s the best system they have right now. I understand why it works better this way though, They were originally giving the tickets out to men, and fights were breaking out over the food in the lines. i think as far as keeping the peace goes, this is going to work best for now. and in the case of a man with no family, then why should he be given a two week supply of rice for a family of six all for himself? we have to hope and pray for these people (if you are religious of course, not trying to offend :) that exceptions like that will find charity from somewhere. what if there is a woman with only 2 kids to care for and no one else? maybe someone like her will be willing to share the rations with people who are left out.

and instead of dwelling on the fact that their role is overly traditional and stereotypical and getting angry, why not focus on the fact that women are being given an important role in aiding the country, and that the forces down there helping noticed that women were capable of doing something men couldn’t?

In an extreme social emergency, when there is not enough to go around, we have to reduce ourselves a little…if this means feeding the weakest first then that’s how it is. The weakest (women and children) alsohappenn to be the future of a society….without them the population would die out. Men..healthy young ones, will almost always manage…and sadly those who don’t didn’t because of natural selection.

I watched the video, and I think the reason that the food lines with women only are less chaotic is that the military is controlling it, and keeping everyone in line rather than the men causing trouble.

Hopefully, these women will share with their families (men included) and not sell the food on the black market which is sure to exist.

Also, I wonder if it is safe for anyone (male or female) to be unprotected and have food when others are hungry.

YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT A CULTURE THAT is in no way related to yours, and no, you will never understand - right or wrong, there is nothing you or anyone else in this world will ever be able to do to change it. I suggest you find something else more worthy of your concern.
